Division 4 - Judge Jodie Capshaw Asel
Judge Jodie Capshaw Asel, Circuit Judge, Division IV, was first appointed to the court in 1991, and has been elected since 1992. Division IV handles general civil and criminal dockets. Judge Asel is a graduate of the University of Missouri - Columbia, School of Law, with an undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri - Columbia.
Prior to appointment to the court, she was an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Boone County; Assistant Public Defender; and in private practice. Judge Asel has been a member of the Missouri Supreme Court Judicial Education Committee since 1993 and has served as Vice-Chair of the committee since 2009. She also has served on the Coordinating Commission for Judicial Education since 2008. Judge Asel was previously a member of the Executive Council of the Judicial Conference of the State of Missouri and served on the Missouri Supreme Court Fine Collection Committee, Family Law Committee, Case Management Committee, and Legislative Committee. She was a Member of the Board of Directors of the Missouri Association of Probate and Associate Circuit Judges for five years, serving as its Vice President and President. Judge Asel served as President of the Boone County Bar Association from 2004 - 2005. She was an officer of the Missouri Circuit Judges' Association from 2010 to 2013 including terms as Vice-President and President. Judge Asel was Presiding Judge of the 13th Circuit in 2013 and 2014 and was appointed to the Presiding Judges' Executive Committee.
