Biography. Judge John F. Garvey was born in Drexel Hill, Pa. On November 9, 1960. He is a 1983 graduate of St. Louis University with a B.A. in Urban Studies. In 1986 he graduated from Rutgers University Law School in Camden, N.J. He was in private practice for 2 years before becoming an Assistant Circuit Attorney in 1988 through 1991. In 1991 he was elected Alderman in the 14th Ward, and while in that role he also returned to the private practice of law. Judge Garvey served as Alderman until 1995, and was appointed Associate Court Judge in December of 1997. He was appointed Circuit Court Judge in December of 2003. He is currently President of the Board of Directors of the St. Louis Public Library and is a coach of basketball and soccer in his local Parish. He is married and has 4 children.
