CIRCUIT & ASSOCIATE CIVIL

Circuit & Associate Civil Case information is available for all public cases pending as of January 1, 1989 and thereafter. The court had an automated system prior to January 1, 1989 and most of the cases filed since that date were converted from the previous system. Circuit Civil Judgments entered prior to February 15, 1989 are not included in Case.net, unless the judgment was revived after January 1, 1989. If you are looking for a judgment entered prior to February 15, 1989, you must review the judgment index located at the Jackson County Courthouse, Circuit Division, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Family Court

Family Court Case information is available for all public cases pending as of January 1, 1989 and thereafter. The court had an automated system prior to January 1, 1989 and most of the cases filed since that date were converted from the previous system. Family Court Judgments entered prior to February 15, 1989 are not included in Case.net, unless the judgment was revived after January 1, 1989. If you are looking for a judgment entered prior to February 15, 1989, you must review the judgment index located at the Associate Clerks Office located in Kansas City, Missouri.

MISSOURI ELECTRONIC FILING SYSTEM

Effective January 1, 2012, electronic records are viewable at the public access terminal at the court house. Case records in Jackson County are available electronically for the above referenced case types beginning March 4, 2013. Contact the court for the availability of electronic records prior to this date or exclusions in the above referenced case types.

Case Numbering for Civil and Family Court

Civil, Associate Civil, Small Claims, Criminal, and Probate cases filed after January 1, 1999 were assigned a new JIS case number. Therefore, all new cases filed in JIS after January 1, 1999 and prior to January 1, 2005 will have the following format:

2 – digit year
2 – character case type code (CV – Civil, PR – Probate)
6 – digit sequential case number

Due to an upgrade in JIS, all cases filed after January 1, 2005 have the following format.

2 – digit year
2 – circuit number
2 – character case type code (CV – Civil, PR – Probate, FC – Family Court)
5 – digit sequential case number

The court location is the location in which the case is initiated. The case is NOT assigned a new case number when it is bound over nor is it assigned a new case number when there is a change of venue within the circuit. This assures that as much as possible the original case number is carried throughout the life of the case.

Other Considerations Related to Civil Case information

(1) Service Information reflects the date the return of service was entered into the computer system, and not the actual date of service. Service information may also not identify which defendant was served. The date of service and other specific service information may be obtained by reviewing the return of service maintained in the official case file.

CIRCUIT AND ASSOCIATE CRIMINAL

Associate and Circuit Criminal case information (to include felonies, misdemeanor, DWI and municipal appeal), as well as those cases assigned to Drug Court is available for all public cases with a case number of CR1996-70000 forward, and any case of CR1997 forward that were entered into CRIS, the automated system used prior to JIS. Criminal judgments entered prior to the case information noted above are not included in Case.net. If you are looking for judgment information prior to that noted above, you must review the judgment index located at the Jackson County Courthouse, Criminal Division, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Case Numbering for CRIMINAL

Criminal cases filed after March 24, 2004 were assigned a new JIS case number. Therefore, all new cases filed in JIS after March 24, 2004 and prior to January 1, 2005 have the following format:

2 – digit year
2 – character case type code (CR – Criminal)
6 – digit sequential case number

Note: For Traffic cases, the citation or ticket number is the case number.

LAKE LOTAWANA MUNICIPAL DIVISION (Lake Lotawana, MO.)

Municipal case information is available for all public cases that were pending as of, or filed after, March 30, 2009. Municipal judgments entered prior to March 30,2009 may not be included in Case.net. If you are looking for a judgment entered prior to March 30, 2009, you may inquire at the Lake Lotawana Municipal Division in Lake Lotawana, Missouri.
