Case Numbering
All cases filed after October 25, 1999, will be assigned a new JIS case number. Each circuit using the new JIS system is assigned a block of case numbers per circuit. The block of numbers for the 6th circuit is 82,000 to 91,999. Therefore, all new cases in JIS will have the following information in the case number format:

6-digit sequential case number in the range assigned to the circuit.
Traffic cases will be filed in the court using the traffic ticket case number.
