Basics of Dissolution of Marriage
Numerically the most frequent need of pro bono clients
is resolution of a marriage problem. Being unable to afford an attorney,
couples often seek “de facto” solutions. This can lead to dysfunctional
family circumstances harmful to the children of the marriage. Such “de
facto” solutions also can occasion violent rather than peaceful
resolutions. Pro bono attorneys who do not regularly practice family law
will be called on to help find a fair and peaceful resolution to a
broken marriage. This chapter is intended for such attorneys.
