10-year-old boy tries on Supreme Court of Missouri Judge Patricia Breckenridge's judicial robe during his family's tour of the Court building March 1, 2022JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A 10-year-old boy from the Kansas City area was surprised to meet a Supreme Court judge during his family’s recent visit to Jefferson City.

During their tour of the Supreme Court Building, the family learned about the work of the state’s judicial system.

Then Supreme Court of Missouri Judge Patricia Breckenridge made a guest appearance, who talked with Ryan about his current desire to become a lawyer when he grows up. She then asked Ryan if he wanted to try on her robe. Of course, he said yes!

“It was a dream come true for all of us and an experience not soon forgotten,” Ryan’s parents said. “The picture will sit on Ryan’s desk as a constant reminder of the dream he is striving for, which is robes of his own someday. We can’t thank the Court enough for being such an inspiration to our child.”

The family’s tour of Jefferson City was arranged by the office of their local senator, Senator Mike Cierpiot of Lee’s Summit.

More information about touring the Court or observing oral arguments is available from the Visiting the Supreme Court page on the Missouri Courts website.
