Mizzou students learn about state judicial system from Boone County judge

22 March 2022

Judge Crane speaks with MU political science class 03-22-22COLUMBIA, Mo. – Judge Kevin Crane traded his judicial robe for a more casual look today as he became “professor for the day” for students in one University of Missouri-Columbia political science class.

Crane, a circuit judge in the 13th Judicial Circuit (Boone and Callaway counties) and former Boone County prosecutor, spoke with approximately 75 undergraduate students in Professor Bill Horner’s Political Science 2200 class, titled The Judicial Process. Crane discussed the judicial system and the jury trial process, then took questions from the students.

“Judge Crane was candid and informative,” Horner said. “The students in my Judicial Process class were both enlightened and entertained by the judge. He gave a great talk about both the process of a criminal trial and what it’s like to be a judge. We are very grateful for his time and for the invitation to come visit the Boone County Courthouse.”

Like Crane, judges throughout the state are available to speak with students of all ages and adult groups. To request a local judge as a speaker, please contact the civic education committee at Civic.Education@courts.mo.gov.
