JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Retired Supreme Court Judge Warren Welliver died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at his home in Columbia, Mo. He was 87.

"It is with sadness that all of us have learned of the death of Judge Warren Welliver on Monday," Chief Justice Laura Denvir Stith said. "Judge Welliver served with distinction as a judge of the Supreme Court of Missouri from 1979 to 1989. My husband Donald Scott and I have been honored to have Judge Welliver as a treasured friend since Don became his first judicial law clerk when Judge Welliver joined the Court in 1979, and his loss will be felt deeply by us both.

"All the members of the Court will miss his wit, his humor, his wisdom and the knowledge of court history he shared as the founder of the Supreme Court Historical Society," Stith said. "The Court's sympathies go out to Judge Welliver's wife Ruth and his daughters Gale and Christy."

The Court has been informed that a memorial service has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2 at Calvary Episcopal Church, 123 South Ninth Street, in Columbia.
