Bond Investigations

The Court orders ACS to complete a bond investigation when a defendant in the Boone County Jail cannot post the set bond. Investigations include a thorough criminal history check, and an interview of the defendant as to employment history, ties to the community, and other factors. ACS's report presents the facts and recommends a course of action based on the subject's suitability for release from custody.

Bond Supervision

Defendants released from custody pursuant to a bond investigation are usually subject to Bond Supervision with ACS until the case is disposed. Defendants report once a week to ACS by phone, in person, or by cell phone app. Defendants who do not report as directed or who are found to be in violation of their bond conditions are reported by ACS to the court and are subject to revocation from the program.

Fines & Related Costs

Adult Court Services supervises defendants who are sentenced to pay a fine and related court costs. Defendants who cannot pay in full on the day of sentencing report to ACS after court to sign an agreement to pay within the court-allotted 90 days. ACS monitors payments and if needed recommends extension past 90 days. Reminder letters are sent to defendants during their 90-day time frame.

Home Detention

Home detention provides closer supervision than most other alternatives to incarceration. ACS staff prepare a report with the defendant's criminal history and significant facts and make a recommendation to the court. Public safety and program integrity are reflected in the screening, selection and supervision of program participants. Each program participant is electronically monitored 24 hours a day and follows a strict pre-set schedule. The electronic hardware reports when the defendant leaves and returns home and whether conditions (no alcohol; prohibited places) are being followed.

Judicial Parole

The judicial parole program permits early release from custody of defendants who are serving a jail sentence and who are considered to not be a danger to the community or to themselves. Each day on judicial parole counts as a jail day served in determining a defendant's sentence completion date.

ACS-Supervised Probation

Defendants meet with a probation officer once a month until special conditions are successfully completed at which time ACS converts probation to unsupervised. There is no cost to defendants on ACS Probation.

Work & Education Program

With Sheriff approval, Boone County Jail inmates serving commit (sentence) time can petition the court to be given credit for work performed or classes attended during incarceration. ACS provides the court a report and recommendation on each application.
