Jury Information - Essential Reading
Check-In
Upon arrival, please check in with the marshal.
A written work excuse can be provided by the marshal upon request.
After all jurors have checked in, you will receive a badge with a number. Please wear the badge until your jury service has ended for the day. Since names are often similar and are frequently mispronounced, you may be called by your badge number while in the jury assembly room. The badge also identifies you as a juror to other people and may keep them from unknowingly discussing a case in your presence.
Voir Dire (Jury Selection Process)
At around 9:00 a.m., the panel will line up and will be escorted to the courtroom by a marshal. The selection process can take twenty minutes to several hours. It is during voir dire that you will be given an opportunity to inform the court of any conflicts you may have with jury service. After voir dire has concluded, the panel will return to the assembly room to await selection. The selected jurors will then return to the courtroom. The remaining panel members should wait until excused by a marshal.
Telephones
A telephone is available in the jury assembly room for local calls only. Dial "9" for an outside line. Please make calls as brief as possible. Restrooms are available in the jury assembly room and deliberation room.
Meals/Breaks
Jurors will be given adequate time for meals. In addition to meal times, the court will periodically recess throughout the day.
