Judge Charles Gilbert Revelle was born August 10, 1878, in Lutesville, Bollinger County, Missouri. Revelle attended public school and Mayfield-Smith Academy (later known as Will Mayfield College) at Marble Hill, Missouri.  He then studied law with the Honorable Moses Whybark in Marble Hill. For his formal legal education, Revelle attended the University of Missouri in Columbia and Washington University in St. Louis. He was admitted to practice law in 1899.

In November 1900, Revelle was elected prosecuting attorney for Bollinger County  for a term of January 1901 through 1904.  After his service as prosecuting attorney, he returned to private practice in Marble Hill. In 1906, he moved to Farmington, where he entered into a law partnership with Walter Hensley. In December 1908, Attorney General-elect, Elliot W. Major appointed him first assistant attorney general of Missouri. He began his duties in January 1909 and served through December 1912. In January 1913, Major – then the governor – appointed him as a state insurance superintendent. He served in that capacity until his appointment to the Court.

On September 11, 1915, Revelle accepted appointment as judge of the Supreme Court of Missouri to fill a vacancy caused by the death of Judge John C. Brown. Revelle served on the Court until December 1916. He then moved to St. Louis to practice law with Major, by then the former governor. While in St. Louis, he served as general counsel for the International Life Insurance Company and Continental Life Insurance Company and attorney for Grand National Bank. In 1919, he also served as a major in the judge advocate general’s section of the Army officers’ reserve corps.  

In 1939, Revelle moved to Los Angeles County, California, where his brother, sister-in-law, and nephew resided. While there, he continued in private practice.  

Judge Charles G. Revelle died May 11, 1948.  He is buried at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California.
