Relay Missouri Service

Relay Missouri Service

Relay Missouri Service provides full telephone accessibility to people who are deaf, hard of hearing or speech disabled. Specially trained Communication Assistants (CAs) complete all calls and stay on-line to relay messages either electronically over a Text Telephone (TT)/Teletypewriter, or verbally to hearing parties. The service, known as Relay Missouri is available 24 hours a day 365 days a year, with no restrictions on the length or number of calls placed. All calls using a relay operator are confidential. CAs follow a strict code of ethics which includes impartial demeanor, non-participating role, and no personal gain from information relayed. Visit the Relay Missouri website for more information.

  • Voice Users initiate a call with Relay Missouri Service, by dialing (866) 735-2466 or 711 (if your phone system doesn't have a switching system).

  • Deaf or hard of hearing persons initiate a call with the Relay Missouri Service by dialing (800) 735-2966 (print this number on your notices if you do not have a TTY in your office). If you receive a relay call from a deaf or hard of hearing person, be aware that the communication assistant is simply there to interpret. Give the CA the area code and telephone number that you wish to call. The CA will process your call, relaying exactly what the TTY user is typing and what you say back to the TTY user. Talk directly to your caller, avoid saying things such as “tell her." Say "Go ahead" at the end of your response. Be prepared for the phone call to take longer than one with a non-hearing impaired person would take.
