Beware Jury Duty Scams

Home

Individuals in some Missouri counties occasionally are subjected to telephone calls, e-mails or text messages threatening arrest and fines for allegedly missing jury duty. Please be advised these calls are scams seeking to obtain confidential information. Individuals receiving such calls should contact their local law enforcement officials.

Missouri courts do not require anyone to provide any confidential information via telephone call, e-mail or text. While potential jurors can use the Show-Me Jury system's secure online portal to complete their questionnaires and then request a court conduct follow-up communication by e-mail or text message, the initial communication from the court to the potential juror always will be by postal mail.

Some courts also may provide a call-in number for potential jurors to listen to a recording to see if they must report on a particular day. Here is a list of local jury offices.

Any telephone call, e-mail or text threatening the recipient with fines or jail time for failure to comply are fraudulent, are in no way connected with Missouri courts and should be reported to local law enforcement officials.

Missouri court officials appreciate your willingness to serve as a juror, as juries are a hallmark of the American justice system.
