Automation Update for Municipal Judges

This session is intended to introduce and orient existing lawyer and non-lawyer municipal judges to the technology available to assist them with addressing and managing their caseloads and dockets in the digital environment of the statewide court automation system. Topics will include, among others, using eBench, Secure Case.net, court reports, court email, and personal digital devices for court business. Training is optional, at your own expense and not offered virtually.


New Municipal Judge Orientation

New Municipal Judge Orientation is mandatory for all new municipal judges, both lawyer and non-lawyer. If a non-lawyer is appointed or elected, a certification program will be offered in conjunction with the orientation.

  • Save the New Municipal Judge Certification and Orientation Registration Form to your computer. Then open it in Acrobat Reader (or Adobe Acrobat) to complete the form. If you do not have Acrobat Reader, a free edition can be downloaded from the Adobe website. Return the completed registration form as soon as possible, but no later than Wednesday, October 8, 2025, by FAX to (573) 522-5013, email to mjec.mailbox@courts.mo.gov, or mail to Kristina Schulte, Office of State Courts Administrator, 2112 Industrial Dr., P.O. Rule 18

In accordance with Missouri Supreme Court Rule 18, municipal judges who also are lawyers (except associate circuit judges, who do not fall within the ambit of the Rule) must earn and report five hours of continuing legal education (CLE) annually. Non-Lawyer judges must earn and report 15 hours of continuing legal education annually. Additionally, both classifications of judges must earn and report three hours of Judicial Ethics/Professionalism; at least one of the three ethics credit hours required under Rule 18.05 (a)(1) must be devoted exclusively to explicit or implicit bias, diversity, inclusion, or cultural competency. Municipal judges do not have to acquire continuing legal education during the reporting year in which they are newly appointed or initially elected. The number of CLE credits offered depends upon the topic(s) and length of each program.
