KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, plans to convene court Monday, April 14, 2025, at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in Kansas City. The arguments are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. in the law school’s courtroom on campus.
A three-judge panel, consisting of Chief Judge Anthony Rex Gabbert, Judge Alok Ahuja, and Special Judge Karen Krauser will hear oral arguments in four cases on the docket. After the oral arguments, the judges will take time to discuss the court system, explain the proceedings, and take questions from the audience.
Gabbert will preside over the proceedings at UMKC. He joined the Western District in 2013. Prior to that, he served as a municipal judge, associate circuit judge and circuit judge in Clay County. Ahuja was appointed to the Western District in 2007. Previously, he practiced law in Washington, D.C., and Kansas City. Krauser has served as an associate circuit judge in Clay County (7th Judicial Circuit) since 2012. Prior to that, she served as a municipal judge of Excelsior Springs and Platte Woods and as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Clay County. She will be sitting with the Western District by special designation.
The court regularly convenes at its courthouse in Kansas City. For more than 25 years, however, the court has held dockets in several of the 45 counties in the court’s jurisdiction, which includes all of northwest Missouri and most of central Missouri. The court convenes oral arguments outside Kansas City to give individuals an opportunity to observe a part of the judicial system they normally do not see and to familiarize those attending with the court’s role in the judicial system.
