ST. LOUIS – Students and faculty are expected to attend the court sessions of the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, when it holds its docket at 9 a.m. December 5, 2022, at Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School. The docket will be held in the auditorium located at 701 North Spring Avenue in St. Louis. The court sessions are open to the public. The court regularly conducts hearings at various locations, including high schools, throughout the Eastern District.

Two judges from the court of appeals are expected to participate in the docket: Judge Kurt Odenwald and Judge Angela Turner Quigless. St. Louis Circuit Judge Calea Stovall-Reid also is expected to be sitting with the court as a special judge. The judges will sit as a panel of three to hear oral argument from attorneys in a case appealed from the St. Louis County circuit court. After the court session, judges will participate in a question-and-answer session with audience members and students regarding courts, the role of judges and the judicial system. 

Odenwald was appointed to the court in 2007, after practicing law in St. Louis and serving as associate general counsel at Anheuser-Busch and as a staff attorney for the public defender’s office. Quigless was appointed to the court of appeals in 2012. She previously served the city of St. Louis as a circuit judge, an associate circuit judge, an assistant city counselor and an assistant circuit attorney. In 2019, Stovall-Reid was appointed as circuit judge in the 22nd Judicial Circuit after serving as an associate circuit judge for 16 years, an assistant public defender, and an assistant circuit attorney. Stovall-Reid also worked with Cardinal Ritter faculty to promote trial advocacy. With the help of Stovall-Reid and other local attorneys and judges, a competitive Cardinal Ritter mock trial team was formed to compete in the Missouri Constitution Project or the BAMSL (Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis) Mock Trial Program from 2014 through 2020.

The Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, is the state’s largest appellate court, with offices in the historic Old Post Office in downtown St. Louis. The court regularly hears cases in St. Louis, Hannibal, Cape Girardeau and other locations in the Eastern District.
