ST. LOUIS – Students and faculty will be attending the court sessions of the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, when it holds its Division V oral argument docket at Windsor C-1 High School beginning at 9:30 a.m. September 20, 2022. The docket will be held in the high school auditorium located at 6208 U.S. Highway 61-67, Imperial, MO. The court sessions are open to the public. The court regularly conducts hearings at various locations, including high schools, throughout the Eastern District.

After the court session, judges will participate in a question-and-answer session with audience members and students regarding courts, the role of judges and the judicial system.

“Being able to bring appellate court proceedings into the community and to give students the opportunity to see an appellate court in action is especially exciting for our Court,” Chief Judge Michael E. Gardner said.

Two judges from the court of appeals will be participating in the Windsor docket: Gardner and Judge Philip M. Hess. In addition, Circuit Judge Edward L. Page of the 23rd Judicial Circuit (Jefferson County) will be sitting with the court as a special judge. The judges will sit as a panel of three to hear oral argument from attorneys representing the parties in a case appealed from the Warren County circuit court.

Gardner was appointed to the court of appeals in 2020 after serving as a circuit judge for the 32nd Judicial Circuit (Bollinger, Cape Girardeau and Perry counties) for five years and practicing law in private practice in Cape Girardeau. Hess was appointed to the court of appeals in 2013. Previously, he was in the private practice of law in St. Louis. Page was elected as a Jefferson County associate circuit judge in 2018 after serving as municipal judge for Crystal City and Festus and practicing law in private practice for 28 years. He was appointed as circuit judge earlier this year.

The Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, is the state’s largest appellate court, with offices in the historic Old Post Office in downtown St. Louis. There are 14 judges on the court, which handles approximately 50 percent of the intermediate appellate caseload in Missouri. The court regularly hears cases in St. Louis, Hannibal, Cape Girardeau and other locations in the Eastern District.
