MEDIA DAY in the Court of Appeals, Southern District
The court cordially invites members of the media to attend a morning of informative sessions involving the courts and Missouri's nonpartisan merit-selection plan for judges.
The morning will include oral arguments in a case involving a Bass Pro subsidiary, information about the court's role and processes, and information about the election for a lawyer member of the Appellate Judicial Commission, which makes nominations for certain vacancies under Missouri's nonpartisan merit-selection plan for judges.

10:30 – 10:45 a.m. > A View of the Court: the "Insider's Tour"
Take a tour behind the scenes of the court, including the judges' private chambers.
10:45 - 11:45 a.m. > "Electing a lawyer to the Appellate Judicial Commission"
Learn about this fall's election of an attorney from within the Southern District counties to serve on the Appellate Judicial Commission. This commission is part of Missouri's nonpartisan merit-selection system for judges and is charged by the Missouri Constitution with the duty of nominating finalists for judicial vacancies on the Supreme Court and the three districts of the Court of Appeals.
Featured speakers in this discussion include Steve Garner, the commission's outgoing lawyer member from the Southern District and president of the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association, as well as Ron Baird, president of The Missouri Bar.
