Appellate court to honor Judge Robert O. Snyder
ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, will convene a special session of the court en banc in memory of the late Judge Robert O. Snyder at 3 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at the Old Post Office, 815 Olive Street, St. Louis, Missouri. Judge Snyder passed away May 25, 2016. Judge Snyder served on the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, from 1977 until his retirement in 1987.
Senator Kit Bond, Ken Rothman, Gene McNary, Judge Phil Heagney and Michael Gans are the invited speakers.
Judge Snyder was educated at Ohio University, where he received a bachelor of science degree, and at St. Louis University School of Law, where he obtained his juris doctorate degree. He served his country in the United States Navy in World War II on the USS Kendrick and went on to practice law in St. Louis. He was elected for six terms in the Missouri legislature in the 1960s and 1970s and was the House Republican floor leader from 1973-1976 when Governor Joseph Teasdale appointed him to the Court of Appeals in 1977. He served as chief judge from 1986-1987.
In private life, Judge Snyder loved wildlife, especially birds, and writing poetry. He was quick to write limericks to entertain friends and relatives. His son has cerebral palsy, and that led him to form the Missouri chapter of United Cerebral Palsy, a support organization for families.
Judge Snyder is survived by his three children, John Gregory Snyder of Marshall, Missouri, Elizabeth “Betsy” Ann Snyder of Clayton and Margaret “Peggy” Dames of Summit County, Colorado.
