The Board

Established in 1975 under Supreme Court Rule 14, the Board of Certified Court Reporter Examiners is comprised of four members of The Missouri Bar who are judges of the circuit or appellate courts and three court reporters who have served a minimum of five years as official reporters in Missouri courts prior to appointment. All board members are appointed by the Supreme Court and each serves a three-year term. Members may be reappointed by the Court.

The Examination

A certification examination is conducted at least semiannually, one in the spring and one in the fall. 

The next examination is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 25 and 26, 2025, in Chesterfield. The exam instructions, information about the test, a study guide and the application are available in PDF forms below:

Completed applications must be received in the Office of the Clerk of the Supreme Court 30 days prior to an examination date.

Certification

Conditions of continued certification status include:
1) Payment of annual renewal fee
2) Reporting of continuing education credits

Continuing Education

All certified court reporters are responsible for complying with Supreme Court Rule 14 regarding continuing education requirements in a timely manner. Attached are the court reporter education committee continuing education manual as well as continuing education forms:

Employment

Effective January 1, 2002, all court reporters, whether official or free-lance, must be certified in accordance with Supreme Court Rule 14. Following is a list of certified court reporters in good standing as well as temporary reporters:


Once certified, individuals may choose to seek employment in a variety of workplaces: Missouri courts, state agencies, private reporting firms, hospitals/medical centers, educational institutions, the media industry, or as entrepreneur. Those interested in working as officials in the Missouri court system should contact circuit judges and judicial administrators in the counties and judicial circuits in which they are seeking employment.
