In 109 counties - comprising 40 judicial circuits - voters continue to choose trial judges through partisan elections. When an interim vacancy occurs in one of these counties, the governor appoints a judge to serve until the next election.

Should such a vacancy occur, interested individuals may apply by completing the application for gubernatorial appointment and returning it to:

Governor Michael L. Parson
Post Office Box 720
Jefferson City, MO 65102
Telephone: (573) 751-3222

An interested individual may submit a resume along with the completed application. Please note that applicants for interim judicial vacancies need not complete the Missouri State Senate authorization & release (which is the last page of the application).

Further questions about interim judicial vacancies in these 40 circuit courts should be directed to (573) 751-3222.

Vacancies in the remaining six judicial circuits, the three districts of the Missouri Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Missouri – all of which are covered by the Missouri Nonpartisan Court Plan – will be posted on the main Judicial Vacancies page.
