Judge Warren Currier was born March 14, 1817, in Walpole, New Hampshire.[i] At the age of 4, Currier began living with his aunt and uncle and left them at the age of 14, when he decided to head into the world on his own.[ii] He studied Greek and Latin at the Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, New Hampshire.[iii] He went to college at the New Hampton Institution in New Hampton, New Hampshire. After completing his studies, he entered the law office of Aiken & Edgerton in Windsor County. He was admitted to the bar in June 1841.[iv] Upon admittance to the bar, he began his own private practice in Windsor.[v] He was twice elected to the senate of Vermont.[vi]
In 1857, Currier left Vermont and moved to Missouri.[vii] He settled in St. Louis.[viii] He resumed his practice of law there and was elected to the lower house of the Missouri legislature in 1864.[ix] While a member of the Missouri legislature, he served as chairman of the committee on ways and means.[x] In 1865, he was selected as a member of the committee that revised the laws of the state.[xi]
In November 1868, Currier was elected to the Supreme Court of Missouri.[xii] He served in this position through January 1872.[xiii] Upon his retirement, he became president of a manufacturing company.[xiv] In 1873, his health prompted him to move to Florida, to a warmer climate.[xv]
