Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, adopts safety precautions in response to COVID-19

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In response to COVID-19 and the Supreme Court of Missouri’s recent order suspending all in-person proceedings in all Missouri appellate and circuit courts, the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, has entered its own administrative order about court operations effective Wednesday, March 18, 2020, until further order of the court. The orders of the Supreme Court of Missouri and the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, do not affect required filing deadlines through Missouri’s electronic filing system.

While the court remains open for business, oral argument is canceled in all cases, regardless of location, through April 3, 2020. Oral argument in all cases previously scheduled through that date will be rescheduled for oral argument in June 2020 at the earliest, unless the case is submitted on briefs. Additionally, all cases scheduled to be heard at a location other than the courthouse have been suspended and may be rescheduled if conditions permit. As the situation develops, the court will determine whether additional oral argument dockets will be canceled or held by audio conferencing. Notice of any change in dockets after April 3 will be provided by the court through the electronic filing system.

To prevent potential exposure, visitors who meet any of the following criteria will not be permitted to enter the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District:
