Judge Berryman Henwood

Term of Service at the Supreme Court of Missouri: November 1930 – December 1932

 

Berryman Henwood was born on April 23, 1881, in Hannibal, Missouri.[i] He received his early education in the Tilden District School of Oakwood, Missouri, and Hannibal High School.[ii] He enrolled in specialized academic courses and regular law courses, at the University of Missouri.[iii] He graduated cum laude, with an LL.B., in June 1904.[iv] While attending the University of Missouri Law School, Henwood was a member of Phi Delta Phi, Tiedeman Chapter, an honorary legal fraternity, and Pro-Consul of the organization during law school.[v] Henwood practiced law in Hannibal from October 1904 to April 1927.[vi] During that time, he was City Attorney for Hannibal from 1909 to 1913.[vii]

 

Judge Henwood was appointed by Governor Henry S. Caulfield as a Commissioner with the Supreme Court of Missouri on April 12, 1927,[viii] and he moved to Jefferson City.[ix] On November 25, 1930,[x] Governor Caulfield appointed him to serve an unexpired term for Judge Walker,[xi] as a Judge with the Supreme Court of Missouri.[xii] Judge Henwood’s term with the Supreme Court of Missouri expired on December 31, 1932.[xiii]After retiring from the bench, Henwood was appointed as Trustee of the Cotton Belt Railroad by the Federal Court in 1936.[xiv] He served as a special counsel for the company until his death.[xv]

 

Judge Berryman Henwood died on March 7, 1955, in St. Louis.[xvi]
