About the Southern District

Covering 44 counties across southern Missouri, the Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District, serves as the primary appellate court for over a third of all counties in Missouri. The district's main offices and courtroom are located in The Hammons Building in Springfield. Uniquely among Missouri's appellate courts, the southern district operates under a statutory mandate to hold arguments in two cities, Springfield and Poplar Bluff. Therefore, the southern district also maintains a courtroom and chambers in the Butler County courthouse in Poplar Bluff. Practice before the southern district is governed by local rules and procedures. The local rules and other district-specific resources are available through the links on this page.
