Missouri appellate court to hold docket in Cape Girardeau
ST. LOUIS -- Students and interested citizens are invited to attend the court sessions of the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, when it conducts its Southern Division docket in the 3rd Floor Courtroom of the Rush Hudson Limbaugh Sr. U.S. Courthouse, 555 Independence Street, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2011. The court sessions are open to the public.
After the court session, judges will participate in a question and answer session with audience members and students regarding courts, the role of judges and the judicial system. Four judges from the Court of Appeals will be participating: Chief Judge Kurt S. Odenwald, Judge Sherri Sullivan, Judge Glenn A. Norton and Judge Gary M. Gaertner Jr. The judges will sit in panels of three to hear oral arguments from attorneys involved in cases appealed from trial courts in Cape Girardeau, St. Francois and Ste. Genevieve counties.
"The Eastern District of the Missouri Court of Appeals is comprised of the City of St. Louis and 25 counties in Missouri, stretching from the Iowa border to Cape Girardeau. Although the Court is based in St. Louis, we do not limit ourselves to hearing cases there. We regularly schedule oral argument dockets in the northern and southern portions of the District to make our Court and judges more accessible to all Missouri citizens,” said Chief Judge Odenwald. “Our Court is very thankful to Judge Stephen Limbaugh, Jr. for allowing us to conduct oral argument in the new federal courthouse,” Judge Odenwald added.
The Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, is the state’s largest appellate court, with offices in the historic Old Post Office in downtown St. Louis. There are fourteen judges on the court, which handles approximately fifty percent of the intermediate appellate caseload in Missouri. The court regularly hears cases in St. Louis, Hannibal, Cape Girardeau and other locations in the Eastern District.
